Social Dumping in the transport sector in The Netherlands

FNV Bondgenoten, the Dutch union organizing transport workers has been actively campaigning against social dumping. FNV stumbles on numerous cases of employers deceiving the governmentbody responsible for compliance of labour legislation. FNV had even found cases of transport companies coming to agreements with the authorities to be exempted from inspections. This documentary (with english subtitles) shows the practices of these companies. The companies shown are all ‘well reputed’. It’s the workers that pay the prize for this ‘business-model’. Dutch chauffeurs have trouble finding jobs, while eastern European chauffeurs are taking over the work for a third of the pay. Their employers enthusiastically profit from the vulnerable legal position and the lack of knowledge of the chauffeurs. When accidents happen, it’s the eastern European driver that takes the fault. Society seems to forget who is truly responsible: the employers that allow these practices of modern day slavery.
